FLUSTIX – no plastics!
What do we certify?
Marine pollution is one of the most prominent issues – but we also have a plastic problem in cosmetics, textiles and even food. Micro-plastic is everywhere and can often be found inside the human body these days.
Our solution is simple: The FLUSTIX seal certifies every product that manages without the use of plastic so that the customer can make a responsible choice.
When a manufacturer wants to be certified by FLUSTIX, its produce undergoes a strict testing process. Products, meaning content and packaging, are being tested for plastic contamination by FLUSTIX. In a second step, the product is sent to the independent, unbiased laboratory WESSLING GmbH which tests the product for its exact plastic content.
The USDA has established minimum biobased content standards for many product categories. A product must meet or exceed the minimum biobased content percentage in its given category in order to qualify for certification. Products belonging in categories for which minimum biobased content requirements have not yet been established must contain at least 25% biobased content. The purpose of this label is to make it easy for consumers to locate and compare biobased products for purchase. By choosing a biobased product labeled, USDA Certified Biobased Product, the consumer can be assured that the USDA and the federal government stand behind the accuracy of the percent of biobased ingredients as stated on the label.
About bio-based Certificate
One critical success factor for the deployment of the bio-based economy is reliable communication about the bio-based content in products. The “Bio-based content certification scheme” is used to specify and validate the amount of biomass in a bio-based product, based on the European standard EN 16785-1:2015. Suppliers can use the scheme to label products with their bio-based content to facilitate both business to business and business to consumer communication.
Single European certification scheme
The “Bio-based content certification scheme” is the European certification scheme that enables independent assessment of claims about the bio-based content of products based on the European standard EN 16785-1. This certification scheme has been developed and validated by a broadly composed group of European stakeholders (e.g. companies active in biopolymers, bio-based chemicals, bio-based plastics, natural rubbers, paints/coatings, certification bodies, procurers).
The European certification scheme contains provisions for the determination, verification and monitoring of the bio-based content of products or product families and is applicable to all kinds of products containing carbon.
The BPI Certification Mark indicates the end-of-life opportunity for a compostable product. BPI Certification guides manufacturers in designing items, understanding what ingredients they can use, and how to make an independent composability claim that consumers and composters can trust. The BPI Certification Mark helps consumers to identify and trust that an item is compostable and can be diverted with food scraps where programs exist. Composters are able to identify and trust that certified products mixed with food scraps and yard trimmings will break down during the regular composting process and will not negatively impact compost quality.
The BPI Certification process is rigorous and ensures that items can be cycled back into the soil safely at a commercial composting facility. This is done through testing to ASTM standards and applying additional restrictions on carcinogens and fluorinated chemicals.
